The Other Mascots: Forgotten Spirits
The spirit of Slippery Rock did not begin with Rocky. There have been two other forgotten spirits that brought energy and even hope to the Slippery Rock community.

| During World War II, Coach N. Kerr Thompson was determined to keep Slippery Rock involved in intercollegiate sports. To keep morale up, Coach Thompson introduced a little black and white dog named “Spot” as the mascot in 1942. | Rocket Man consisted of a shirt, cape, and mask and appeared on and off for 15 years before disappearing. It debuted in 1949. |
